If you could only bring one book to read in this lovely cottage by the sea, what would it be? 📚 Comment below! Love this of Cuckmere Haven down in Sussex, England with those beautiful Seven Sisters chalk cliffs in the distance by @wes 84k
Doesn’t this look like a painting! The cottages here at Cuckmere Haven have become a most popular landmark. Recognise them from the film Atonement? Ahhh those magnificent chalky cliffs in the South Downs, where kittiwakes and fulmars can be seen alongside Brimstone butterflies and cowslips - But don’t actually slip on them or you’ll come a cropper!
The beach down below was also commonly used by smugglers in the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries. For example, in 1783 two gangs of smugglers (each numbering 200 or 300) overcame officers due to the large numbers of them and successfully carried away a large quantity of grog and booty 🏴☠️
