There’s perfection, and there’s done. But there’s also the idea in my head that isn’t translating perfectly to paper, so I’m back to the drawing board✌🏻.

😂 Thinking this was going to be easy I plunged into the world of search and found that EMG studies really do suck.
.
👉 The amount of inconsistency is honestly shocking with some exercises in some studies showing very high activations while the same exercises in other studies showing much lower activations 🤔.
.
👉 The 6 exercises I have compiled are a mix of the evidence and my own clinical experience on how my clients have responded.
.
1️⃣ Wall Press: Easily one of my favourites, pressing your inside leg against a wall you should feel your glute medius on your stance leg (outside leg) start to work 💪. Very nice isometric to get things going 👍
.
2️⃣ Side lying abduction: a tricky one no doubt. Have your bottom knee up 90 degrees towards your chest with your top leg in line with your hip. Point your toe downwards and keep your hips perpendicular to the floor. Now holding this position, lift your leg. Optional as well to do this against a wall and have your top leg against that 💪.

3️⃣ Standing leg abduction: Wrap the theraband between two legs and push the outside leg up. Your balancing leg (stance leg) should feel a nice burn
.
4️⃣ Crab Walks: Stay in a mini squat position, band at the feet or ankles and keeping your feet pointed forward step to the side.
.
5️⃣ Side plank: Optional to have the top leg up but better if you do. Keep your body in line with itself and push down hard with your bottom leg
.
6️⃣ Single leg squat: Find a high chair to do this on. Keeping your hip level and one leg outforward, slowly tap your bottom against a chair and sit back up.
.

🔍🤔WHERE IS YOUR LOW BACK PAIN COMING FROM?🔍🤔

Low back pain is fairly common and has continued to perplex both clinicians and patients alike due to its complex and multi-factorial nature. Pain can flare up or cool down depending on your mood, stress levels, sleep habits, diet choices, activity levels, and much more! So it is important to recognize that a lifestyle change, more than anything, is required in order to truly get a good hold on chronic low back pain. For those who live sedentary livestyles, simply increasing activity levels may just be enough to decrease levels of pain or how often it occurs. But what about those who are ALREADY active?

Many of the aforementioned lifestyle changes (especially sleep & stress) can be the aggravator of pain. However, some movements may be predisposing you more than others during your activities. What do I mean? I am talking about regional inter-dependence. Regional inter-dependence is the concept that pain may be produced by a movement dysfunction in a seemingly unrelated location. For low back pain this can be movement dysfuntions from above like the thoracic spine, or from any joints below like the hips, knees, ankles or foot. This tends to occur when someone loses the ability to move the lumbar spine independently from other regions. An example of this is arching the back during hip extension activities, AND NOT being able to perform each action seperately from each other. Another example is early butt winking during a squat. Today's exercises aims to dissociate the movement between the low back and other regions of the body. We use objects you can find around the house or gym to provide external cues so that we can identify when we 'cheat' or 'compensate' in a movement. Likewise, having a friend with a trained eye to spot & catch these movements works just as well.
