Hi, it’s me (again)! My bff @lauravonphotography snagged some pictures of me in Iceland so I thought I’d show my face around here since you don’t see it too much. Currently listening to the new @taylorswift album (BLESS) and working my afternoon away before we head out for a weekend of camping! A weekend off?! Yes, my last weekend off until December (lol) so I’m doing all the weekend things. Drop your favorite weekend activities down below 👇🏼 ...
OK! We have a winner! Honest to goodness the replies to yesterday's post were epic. Wow! Thank you to everyone that took the time to reply. Hopefully those of you who are new or intermediate fly fishers take the time to read the replies to our questions as there is a TON of great ideas in there, and as we & Tom would all say - there is no right answer, of course! .
@eyejoey broke it down perfectly. @rosenbauert has graciously provided a copy of his new fly tying book. Tom's away filming and you need to shoot him a note mid-September when he gets back.
Not to be ungracious hosts, @mountain_man_antics was equally solid. So shoot us a DM and we'll link you up with a digital copy of our 'Brown Trout Project' video.
So here's the deal. Amelia lined up with a 9' 5wt; 11' leader to 4x Superstrong mono tippet (a light pressured water); single dry fly #16 EHC to avoid the nymph plop spook possibility; she got in downstream and slightly left (out) of the fish and laid a cast leading it by 20"; she stood 2 1/2 rod lengths below the fish meaning a 1 1/2 rod length cast (3' fly line + 11' leader). And after all that... this happened! .
Again, even what Amelia chose wasn't necessarily 'right'. Maybe a larger gap hook sticks or maybe a less directly upstream cast from a more lateral position reduces the micro drag on the fly (you can see it as the fly drifts in) and the hook sets. Lots of neat stuff in these posts! .
Thanks to everyone. We're sure that every reply helped others in some way, and that's the real beauty of all this. Thank you! ❤👍👌🙌 ...
