Daily Devotion: Eyes in the Back of My Head⁣
⁣
The Bible in One Year: Psalms 33–34; Acts 24⁣
⁣
Today's Bible Reading: Psalm 33:6–19⁣
⁣
From his dwelling place [God] watches all who live on earth. Psalm 33:14⁣
⁣
I was as mischievous as any other child in my early years and tried to hide my bad behavior to avoid getting into trouble. Yet my mother usually found out what I had done. I recall being amazed at how quickly and accurately she knew about my antics. When I marveled and asked how she knew, she always replied, “I have eyes in the back of my head.” This, of course, led me to study her head whenever she’d turn her back—were the eyes invisible or merely cloaked by her red hair? As I grew, I gave up looking for evidence of her extra pair of eyes and realized I just wasn’t quite as sneaky as I had supposed. Her watchful gaze was evidence of her loving concern for her children.⁣
⁣
As grateful as I am for my mother’s attentive care (despite being occasionally disappointed I hadn’t gotten away with something!), I’m even more grateful that God “sees all mankind” as He looks upon us from heaven (Psalm 33:13). He sees so much more than what we do; He sees our sadness, our delights, and our love for one another.⁣
⁣
God sees our true character and always knows exactly what we need. With perfect vision, which even sees the inner workings of our hearts, He watches over those who love Him and put their hope in Him (v. 18). He’s our attentive, loving Father.⁣
⁣
—KIRSTEN HOLMBERG⁣
⁣
How does it comfort you to know that God sees everything and is watching over you? What has He been doing recently to sharpen your character?⁣
⁣
Dear Father, thank You for watching over all people and for seeing what happens in our world and in my life.⁣
⁣

The search for identity is a struggle most people can relate to nowadays. Many of us are constantly trying to clearly define who we really are, but few of us are aware that our identity is being shaped every day through personal experiences, relationships and the world around us. ⁣
⁣
When we root our identity on something or someone else, such as our job, how much we make, our achievements, our looks or what others say about us, it leaves us vulnerable and unstable. If our identity is founded on things that are bound to fail and constantly changing, our identity will naturally shift with it.⁣
⁣
But when our identity is based on how God sees us, we’ll never feel the need to find our worth in our external circumstances and our identity will not be shaken. @iammiketodd @wearetransformation⁣

Give it to God. He won't let you down. Give it to God and let it go. God can do more for your situation in a single day than you can do in a lifetime. But you have to put your trust in Him, not in your desired outcome. Be still and wait upon the Lord. *

Joy is in Jesus, and this hope is for Jesus, and this patience is from Jesus, and this tribulation is with Jesus, and this constant prayer is through Jesus to God the Father. (desiringgod.org)

Dear heavenly Father, Help us to hold steadfast to prayer. Lift up our spirits for us to remember the duties of the Christian life - is to maintain a joyful hope, and to sustain in the midst of afflictions. .
.
We pray for those who are suffering and in trouble today, that you may bless them with strength and courage to keep going. Our hope is unbreakble, as is the faithfulness of the Lord. IN JESUS NAME. AMEN

When we operate out of a lack of trust in God, it inevitably leads us to take control and rely on ourselves. That’s precisely when pride creeps in. It causes us to think our way will be better. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Although control may give the illusion of freedom and peace of mind, it actually causes us to live in a permanent state of fear of all the things we can’t control.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
But when we allow Him to be Lord of our lives and surrender in humility, we are freed from the pressure of self-reliance and can rest confidently and peacefully in who He is rather than our limited power.

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because he first loved us. Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.
((1 John 4:18‭-‬21)).

I married into a “Cubbies” family. For those not familiar with the meaning of that term it is being a fan of the Chicago Cubs baseball team. For some time we were the leagues “loveable losers.” Everywhere we went wearing our Cubs apparel, the sympathy of the masses came with it along with many condolences. But Cubbies fans we are! And it does not matter what season we are actually in, the Cubs apparel is worn proudly. There
is no doubt where our sports loyalties lie.
Paul is making a similar statement in Romans 13:14 when he says “Clothe yourself in the Lord Jesus Christ.” This is a reoccurring theme for Paul but he does not mean actual apparel. In Colossians 3:12 he says, “Clothe yourselves therefore, as God’s chosen ones…[by putting on behavior marked by] tenderhearted pity and mercy, kind feeling, a lowly opinion of yourselves, gentle ways, [and] patience [which is tireless and long-suffering, and has the power to endure whatever comes, with good temper]” (Amplified Bible). It is how we are to be known by others. Dressing this way, being clothed with Christ, also reminds ourselves whose we are. Let those who know us say, “You are always wearing Christ!” 7/24/18.

True strength where does it come from? Motivational speeches,

True strength where does it come from? Motivational speeches, "digging deeper into yourself"? From muscles, food, exercise, routines? Our current mental and emotional state? All of these things can provide us with a momentary sense of strength, but here's the thing… ALL of these will fade away and not one will last. So what can we do when the speeches aren't appealing, and we have nothing left to give? When our bodies are breaking, and food is running thin? When our schedules fall apart, and our emotions betray us? What happens when our strength is gone, our mental state is clouded, and we've reached the end of ourselves… That's where hope comes in, and He has a name! You see Isaiah is showing us in this verse that God is our refuge (our safety and protection) and our strength! When we hit moments where we're at the end of ourselves, when depression tries to cripple us, this world kicks us down, and we've got nothing left to give... GOOD! "Good? Jason what's wrong with you?!" I mean good, because it shows us clearly that we can not do this ourselves and we were never meant to. There has to be an eternal source of strength we can lean on that will last, and that is faithful. Good, because there is and that sources name is Jesus! God has the strength you've been longing for, and so much more! If you've never given your life to Christ, and you find yourself in this situation, weak and hopeless PLEASE I implore you, turn your life towards Jesus. This is not some "motivational speech" or some "fancy religious cliche", this is real. Jesus Christ has the strength you are needing, and so much more! Or maybe you're like me, a Christian, who has tried to act like we're strong enough to do it ourselves… except we aren't. I want you to know, it is okay to be weak, it is okay to admit where you're at 😊 but don't stay stuck there, for there is hope! Give your weakness to Jesus and let Him be your strength! So no matter where you find yourself today, I want you to know that your refuge (safety) and your strength can be found in God! That's a promise. And when we turn our lives towards Jesus, and his strength, we can be sure that… The Best Is Yet To Come! 🔥 ...

I am someone who enjoys the gym, I enjoy the challenge of pushing myself to get one more rep, to continue to push my strengthens to new limits yet I know that can only last so long for as I get older and my body starts to get weaker the weight I once was able to pull or push will soon be less. Yet unlike the physical ability to get strong spiritually we continually grow stronger and stronger and stronger and this is done not in a gym but in the church, it’s done on our knees in prayer, it’s done in chairs during our personal devotional time, it’s done around the dinner table in godly conversations with godly men and women. In doing these things we develop maturity in our walk with God in doing so we build a stronger foundation and a deeper faith in the word and promises of God. It’s in the battle we grow stronger, it’s in time of prayer we draw closer to God, it’s in the time of our reading we learn, we grow, we develop and we hear from God speaking to us. So what does your spiritual workout regimen look like? Or is it nonexistent at all? Today start your training spend time in prayer, spend time in the word of God a chapter a day, spend time in praise and worship and you will begin to see the development of a godly strength and character. #dailydevotion #dailydevotional #devotion #devotional #faith #faithful #grow #develop #strength #strong #read #pray #rescuedchurch #spendtimewithGod #workitout #workout #character #promise #love #compassion.
